An international conference aimed at young researchers, being a wonderful opportunity to showcase their work and establish new connections for their career.
The conference main target are PhD students, but it's also of utmost interest to master's students and undergraduate which are eager to introduce themselves in mathematical research.
There will be parallel sessions in different areas with short talks by the attendees, as well as a poster session. We will also have 4 plenary talks given by young professors and some workshops of general interest.
BYMAT is a wonderful opportunity to meet and learn about fellow young researchers and make connections in your research area and beyond. We encourage you to participate actively with a poster or a talk, and of course that you also enjoy Sevilla in your visit.
For any questions feel free to contact us at bymat@us.es and check our social networks for the latest updates.

She is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Algebra Department of the University of Seville. She obtained her PhD Degree from the University of Seville in March 2016 and before coming back to Seville, she has been working in many different places. In 2019 she was awarded Vincent Caselles Prize. Her research interests include knot theory and braid groups.
He is a differential geometer working at the Geometry Section of the Départment de Mathématique at Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Currently, he holds a Marie Skłodowska Curie European Postdoctoral Fellowship with acronym HOLYFLOW. He obtained his PhD Degree from the University of Santiago de Compostela. In 2024 he was awarded the Vicent Caselles Prize. His research is focused on Riemannian geometry.
She is currently working at the Statistics department at the Universidad Pública de Navarra. She obtained her PhD Degree from the Universidad de Valladolid and Université de Toulouse III-Paul Sabatier. In 2023 she was awarded the Vicent Caselles Prize. Her research is focused on Artificial Intelligence.
She is currently a CSIC scientist in the Institute of Mathematical Sciences in Madrid. She completed her thesis at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and Institute of Mathematical Sciences (ICMAT) in Madrid. In 2019, she was awarded the Vicent Caselles Prize. Her scientific interests include partial differential equations, inverse problems, geometric analysis, fluid mechanics and mathematical physics.
This workshop offers an introduction to mathematics education as an academic discipline, clarifying its objectives, methods, and limitations in contrast to other areas such as mathematical research. It will present an overview of recent studies focused on mathematics teaching at the university level, with particular attention to research involving mathematics lecturers and undergraduate students.
The session will begin by outlining what mathematics education is (and what it is not), emphasising that its main goals include both pure research (aimed at understanding the nature of mathematical thinking, learning, and teaching) and applied research (focused on improving mathematics instruction). The workshop will then explore how these research insights can inform and enhance university-level mathematics teaching.
Finally, it will reflect on the fact that, although the number of studies in this area is growing, much remains to be explored. One of the main challenges is how to ensure that research findings effectively reach university classrooms, and how to create efficient mechanisms for transferring research into teaching practice. Collaboration between university mathematics lecturers and researchers in mathematics education is key to achieving this goal.

Offered by the City Council, on Wednesday afternoon we will enjoy a guided tour through the most beautiful streets of Seville, visiting iconic landmarks such as the Plaza de España, the Guadalquivir River, and the picturesque Santa Cruz quarter.
On Wednesday evening, we will gather for the social dinner at La Gorda de las Setas restaurant. It is mandatory to confirm whether you will attend or not via the following confirmation form
On Thursday afternoon, we will have a visit to this UNESCO World Heritage site, whose architecture and exotic gardens will fascinate you. It is mandatory to confirm whether you will attend or not via the following confirmation form
During BYMAT, in the Faculty of mathematics main hall, you will find the exposition Nudos: A journey into knot theory. A collection of 3D models of knots and links will guide the visitor through the amazing world of Knot Theory.
